GALVESTON SEAFARERS CENTER – FAQ’s

  • What type of transportation is available from the Seafarers Center?

    • We have a van that we use to transport from the center to Wal-Mart, Ross, Target, etc...  Please note: the van service is dependent upon the availability of volunteers to operate the van so the van service is not always available.

    • Galveston has a Trolley Service that costs $1 and the route will get them to Wal-Mart and back.  We have trolley information at the center.

    • Yellow Cab is available for whatever their fees are (call them direct at 409-763-3333 or we can call them for you.

    • UBER can be utilized as well

    • We have 9 loaner bicycles, these are FREE (first come/first serve). The crew member must complete a waiver and provide a copy of their ship ID.  Once completed, we will provide a card to them that they surrender when they want to borrow a bike.

  • Is there Free Access to phones?

    • we have free phones for local calls

  • Do you provide money transfer services such as MoneyGram, Western Union, Ria, etc?

    • No, we do not provide money transfer services at this time but there is a MoneyGram location available at 2418 Strand.

  • Is there a charge for Package and Mail Services?

    • there is no charge for inbound letters or cards

    • Package Fees range from $1.00 to $2.00 depending on the size of the package.

    • We sell US and International Stamps

  • Does the Seafarer Center have computers available and wi-fi access?

    • we provide unlimited FREE wi-fi and FREE internet access

    • we have 2 computers available for use with no charge

  • What type of entertainment is available at the Seafarer Center?

    • We have (all are FREE to use):

      • Foosball, Ping Pong and Pool Tables

      • a Play Station and an XBOX

      • DVD movies that can watched here OR take with them for FREE

      • a fully stocked library of books & magazines that they can take with them

      • we have puzzles, board games, chess and checkers

      • We have an art station that the crew members can use to draw or paint.  We display their works of art in the center

      • We have 3 guitars, a piano, a drum and a karaoke machine

  • Are Phone Cards, Phones and Accessories Available for sale?

    • we sell T-Mobile phone cards that are unlimited and work in the US, Mexico, Canada and Honduras

      • prices DO NOT include sales tax or credit card fees

        • we have 3 plans (30 days for $30, 60 days for $50 and 90 days for $65)

        • we also have a 15GB DATA ONLY card that is good for 90 days for $40

        • We also sell phones and accessories (chargers, ear buds, cases. etc...)

  • Are Snacks, beverages and other items available?

    • we have FREE hot coffee and tea

    • we sell sodas, water, sports drinks, ramen soups, candy, chips, ice cream bars and snacks for a nominal fee

    • We provide FREE toiletries (soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, etc.....)

    • We have clothing, some are FREE and some require payment.

 

Our goal at the center is to provide a safe haven for the crew members to relax and unwind while they are in port.  Monetary donations are welcomed but not solicited.  We welcome any seafarer with open arms and truly appreciate them when they walk through the door.  I encourage you to stop by and see what we do.
